Wren Monoprints

Last weekend, I had the luxury of spending a few hours monoprinting at the Toowoomba Art Society with members of the Saturday Printmakers.

Using some wren stencils from a previous series, I created a small series of monoprints with a circle shaped plate and a few plant materials including some Shephards's Purse weed.

I titled the works 'In My Garden'.  Its a bit of wishful thinking, as I unfortunately don't have wrens in my garden, but really wish I did!

Below are photos of a selection of the series of 9 prints.

    1. Hi Robbie, thanks so much for your lovely feedback. My secret weapon for my stencils is my 'Scan and Cut' machine. I used to cut my own but I was really bad at getting detail with the knife, so my Scan and Cut machine does a beautiful job and I can cut lots of them. The feet on the birds is particularly important to get right for a beautiful print.

      Cheers

  2. Hi. I love these! They incorporate two of my favorite things: birds and botanicals. Would love to know your process. Do you cover that in one of your books or workshops? Thanks for sharing.

    1. Hi Dorothy, yes I teach this process in my monoprinting workshops, If you're interested sign up for my mailing list via my website. My next workshops are in October in Mt Tamborine, though I do run workshops in Brisbane and other locations. My book Nature in Print is about monoprinting using a gelatine plate. The wren prints were done with an etching press, a similar technique with slightly different results.

    1. Hi Louise, thank you for your lovely comment about my work. My books are available on blurb.com either as pdf/ebooks or you can order soft cover copies to be posted to you from USA. Hopefully the postage isn't too cost prohibitive for you. Cheers Sandra

  4. Have just found your blog. Beautiful work. I was intrigued by the plant dyed paper. I wonder if that could be done in the micro-wave? Will definitely have to give it a go.

  5. Hi Sonia, I didn't use plant dyed paper for these prints, its all just monoprinted. But I have monoprinted over eco-dyed paper. I do my eco-dyed paper as bundles in a pot, boiled. I'm not sure I'd want to use my microwave...my partner might not be impressed!
